Your first visit will usually last a little longer than future visits. The Acupuncturist will take a thorough medical history and does a physical exam based on Chinese philosophy. The acupuncturist will talk to you about your concerns and questions, then gather your information to determine your diagnosis and treatment. He will discuss your areas of disharmony and your course of treatment.
Every client will have a specific treatment plan that is individualized for them. No two clients will be the same, nor have exactly the same treatment.
Main Objective: Acupuncture treats the root cause of your disease or condition. Treating the root cause of your condition with acupuncture will utimately heal this disharmony and subsequently result in the subsiding of your symptoms.
Second Objective: A secondary objective for your treatment will be to alleviate the symptoms or manifestations of the disease directly. An example of this is that during an acute condition of severe pain, the treatment may focus initially on the "pain" symptom in order to provide immediate relief to the client.
Treating the client with the root cause and the symptoms are usually done at the same time. The strategy for every client will be determined by the acupuncturist and the client and their condition.
An important overall objective of acupuncture is also to strengthen the immune system. Most clients that have experienced prolonged illness or disease have a weakened or low functioning immune system. Acupuncture can be used to strengthen the immune system and facilitate healing.
